06.09.2008 “Romani language and culture”
In the RCC “DROM” was held a meeting with representatives of Roma NGOs, institutions, local government, and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia . The aim of this meeting was to review the possibilities that are offered in elementary schools for the study of the “Romani language and culture” as a facultative subject.
Teaching should start with the beginning of the school year and one of the criteria is that the Romani kids willingly accept the election subject “Romani language and culture”, because of the critical number of kids for creation a class and successfully realization of the scholastic plan.
Another meeting on the same subject took place in the Community of Kumanovo and was organized by Mr. Mile Stojmenovic (local government- education section) on initiative of Mr. Ashmet Osmanovski, representatives of Roma NGOs and Romani politicians. Also on this meeting were present the principals of some local elementary schools.
These are the conclusions from this meeting:
Organizing parent meetings, with the aim to inform parents about “Romani language and culture”;
Primary schools to prepare statements to be signed by parents;
To start negotiations with the institutions because of the need of forming classes with less than 15 students, and the need of fusion classes to fulfilment the quota.
